Transportadora de Gas del Sur S.A. began operations on December 28, 1992, following the privatization of the Argentine energy sector. Today, TGS is the country's most important gas transporter, operating the most extensive natural gas pipeline system in Latin America. It is a leader in the production and commercialization of natural gas liquids both for the domestic market and for export, conducting business from the General Cerri Complex, located in Bahía Blanca, province of Buenos Aires. It also provides comprehensive solutions linking natural gas Producers to the market.
In July of 2016 Grupo Werthein acquired a stake in the controlling shareholder of TGS, one of the key players in Argentina´s natural gas midstream industry.
The company is the largest natural gas transporter in Latin America in terms of pipeline length.
• More than 60% of the total gas in Argentina travels through TGS´9,134 km of pipeline, approximately delivering 65.4 million m³ per day.
The company is the second largest natural gas processor and Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) marketer in Argentina.
• Through its General Cerri processing complex, TGS extracts ethane, propane, butane and gasoline from the natural gas transported by its pipelines, with around 1 million tons NGL production capacity.
Other TGS complementary business include mid-stream services and telecommunications services through Telcosur.
TGS‘s shares trades at NYSE (“TGS”) and at the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange (“TGSU2”). As of March 2017, the company's market cap was US$ 2.89B.
